Training Timeline & Expectations

 • Basic Ground training (being caught easily, leading respectfully, standing tied, grooming, picking hooves, standing for the farrier, baths, fly spray, and clippers etc.) will be provided for a minimum of two (2) months.

• Following completion of general ground manners, more extensive ground manners could continue a minimum of three (3) additional months. This time includes more extensive lunging and desensitizing skills, saddle breaking, bridling and line driving.

• Training duration may extend beyond this timeframe depending on the equine’s progress, soundness, behavior, and mental readiness as determined solely by Brewster Farms. Or the equine may be ready to advice ahead of schedule.

• If the equine demonstrates readiness prior to completion of this period, mounting may begin at the discretion of Brewster Farms and the Supervising Trainer. Mounted training time periods depend on many factors. Your in person assessment is the time to discuss expectation and goals to be sure our program is the right fit for you. The assessment fee is $65 plus $1 per mile round trip. The trainer will come to you and assess the equine in familiar territory.
